I Love Sleep
I LOVE sleep. I have struggled with getting good sleep a lot throughout my adult life. I’ve found some really great tools that help me to be fully rested.
First is a routine before bed. Night time routines seem so obvious when it comes to kids. My son does the exact same thing before getting in bed every night - bath time, comfy pjs, brush teeth, snuggle, read books & turn out the lights, As we get older we forget that we need those things too. Having a consistent routine (and preferable one with no screens) has helped my sleep so much. It changes month to month but right now it’s skincare, acupressure mat & my red lght mask. If I really want to get crazy with it, I’ll read a few pages of a book. After a long day I’d usually rather sit in bed with some Dove chocolate and scroll on Revolve but it really impacts my sleep and then it ends up effecting my mental state & my energy the next day.
I’ve also learned to have nothing stimulating before bed - no to do lists for the next day, no conversations about politics or work, no tik tok. I really do think that a relaxing environment is helpful, so make your bed space & night stand as cozy as you can. If I know it’s going to be one of those nights and I have a lot going on, I’ll use a natural sleep aid to make sure I get it.
